I think they used the Wired aesthetic to tie it into their use of the word “hacker” in the byline. A bit of a stretched metaphor, sure, but that’s the best reason I can come up with.

I just saw another Dexter ad riffing off a magazine cover, showing Dexter dressed sharply in a suit with a DQ masthead identical to the GQ masthead.

Yes, I noticed an ad for Dexter on the New York Times web site too, borrowed the font from the NYT. I get it now…
